Desktop
Desktop file syncing allows the user to sync one or more folders on their computer's hard drive to their iPod. This is useful for keeping a backup of documents and for making documents available when the user is away from their computer. This function allows the iPod to function as a file transfer device, for carrying documents and other files between multiple computers. Desktop file syncing works by replicating the files in the specified folder on the computer to the iPod's hard drive. This option will only transfer new and updated files so it is much faster than simply copying a folder to the iPod. If a file in the Desktop Sync folder (on the iPod) has been edited since it was originally transferred to the iPod, the new version of the file will be saved from the iPod back to the computer when synched.

Media
Media syncing functionality allows you to sync pictures on the iPod from devices like Belkin Media Reader and recording from devices like the Belkin Voice Recorder or the Griffin iTalk.
